Space-time analytics of human physiology for urban planning

Recent advancements in mobile sensing and wearable technologies create new opportunities to improve our understanding of how people experience their environment. This can inform urban design decisions. Currently, an important issue is the adaptation infrastructure increasing cycle e-bike use. Using data collected from 12 cyclists on a highway between two municipalities The Netherlands, we coupled location emotion at high spatiotemporal resolution model examine relationships cyclists' emotional arousal (operationalized as skin conductance responses) visual stimuli environment extent visible land cover type). We specifically took within-participants multilevel modeling approach determine different types viewable area arousal, while controlling for speed, direction, distance roads, directional change. Surprisingly, suggests ride segments with views larger natural, recreational, agricultural, forested areas were more emotionally arousing participants.
